The following are two lessons I’ve learned in the past 5 years:
1) Vancouverites are extremely passionate about their local community.
2) Life’s greatest memories often occur in costume.
Odd pair, I know, but they are complimentary lessons in the case of Chip’s Not Dead Yet! Dubbed as “The Funnest Charity Race Alive,” Chip’s Not Dead Yet is a BC Children’s Hospital Fundraiser that expects to bring together approximately 5000 people on Saturday June 20th for themed races, live entertainment, a beer garden, and the summer’s biggest street party! Not to mention the prizes! Ohh, the prizes.
To participate, Vancouverites are asked to register themselves or a team for any of the following waves (including the prize they are racing for!)
+ Bridal Dash = 2 tickets anywhere West Jet flies
+ High Heel Dash = $1,500 Gift Card to spend at Pacific Centre
+ Underware Dash = A backyard summer BBQ catered by Russell Beer and Memphis Blues BBQ.
+ Super Hero Half Mile(ish) Dash = A trip along the Inside Passage on the new Northern Expedition presented by BC Ferries.
+ Timed Wave Race = 2 people will each win 6 months of yoga each, a mat and a water bottle courtesy of Semperviva Yoga
+ Canucks Fan Parade = a Vancouver Canucks forward Taylor Pyatt signed stick and a Mattius Ohlund signed Jersey.
+ Rock Star Wave = 2 tickets to the upcoming Aerosmith concert and a signed Aerosmith drumhead.
+ Elite Race = $20,000
+ Other races include: the couch potato wave, the Pooch Parade, the uniform dash and high school elite dash.
What you can expect when you register:
+ To participate in an event where 200% of proceeds go towards the BC Children’s Hospital. 200%? Yes, 200%! Chip Wilson, founder of Lululemon, has pledged to match every dollar raised up to $150,000.
+ A Lululemon tech top valued at more than the cost of registration!
+ Access to the summer’s biggest street party along W. 10th Avenue between Sasamat and Tolmie
+ Live performances on the Georgia Strait entertainment stage by Current Swell, Armchair Cynics, Run GMC and Daniel Wesley
+ Entrance to the Russell Beer beer garden
+ A chance to enjoy a Saturday with friends and family, in costume (or not in the case of the underwear wave), for a good cause.
I know we Vancouverites are a proud bunch when it comes to our city and our community; So get your friends, family and neighbors together, register for a race, and come out to support the BC Children’s Hospital on Saturday, June 20th.
Chip’s NOT dead yet – so look alive, Vancouver!
