
You may have heard: Tiger Woods is having marital difficulties.
It’s pretty bad apparently, so I thought I’d throw him a lifeline: take the missus to VanDusen Botanical Garden Festival of Lights and rekindle the right kind of romance.
Seriously: this is the single best place in Vancouver right now for question-popping, tender promises, passionate declarations and conciliatory gestures. It is only a matter of time before Hollywood films a chick flick here.
The dramatic light-up is an annual fundraiser for the famous garden and runs until Jan. 3 every day except Christmas from 4:30 ’til 9 pm.
Sure there are other winter light fests in this city, but this is the one for lovers: start with a fine meal and a glass of bubbly in the adjacent Shaughnessy Restaurant, then stroll the quiet pathways hand-in-hand–away from the exuberant family hordes that often dominate the city’s other light shows.
William Butler Yeats once wished he could spread “the heavens’ embroidered cloths” at his lover’s feet. This is about as close as you’ll ever come to that grand gesture…

I totally agree. It’s so beautiful, so Christmas-y… I go every year with my family on Christmas Eve, but it’s even better with a partner.
