My New Years resolution is to allow more time for me to do the things I enjoy doing. Painting, cooking and enjoying the company of friends.

I would like to be better at keeping “in-touch” with my out-of-town friends. It’s really not that hard to put aside some time to pick up the phone, but I don’t seem to do it. So, I resolve to find 30 minutes, at least once a week, to catch up with the people who mean the most to me!

My New Year’s resolution is to refrain from gossiping. A deep sense of guilt and shame sets in most times it occurs. That being said I recognize the merits of gossip. Recent studies have shown that gossip is used to form and strengthen friendships. So in order to keep the resolution realistic, I would like to make a sincere effort to stop taking part in malicious and petty gossip.

My resolutions are to believe more in myself, read ten biographies, get involved more at church, spend less time on Facebook, go to Europe and/or New York, relax in one of the beautiful hot springs at Harrison, and give more emotionally, spiritualy and financially to friends and family and others in need.

  20. Julie

My New Years resolution is to make decisions that are true to who I am. I do not want to feel like I am existing, I want to live. I am not going to allow life to control me but rather begin to control my life. I am going to start this process by quitting my job because it brings me down emotionally and I am going to find something that I can wake up to everyday with a smile.

Would you help us win this luxury prize and to start our New year off right?… Merry Christmas & Happy New year to the wonderful staff at The Harrison Hot springs Resort and Spa

  27. Kenneth W

Work/Life balance…and therefore a relaxation trip will be most useful….

  28. Laurie

My New Year’s “Resolution” is not the typical.. instead of “quitting drinking” or “getting fit”, this year, I plan to start my “year of learning”. I will learn as much as I can on a specific topic for the entire month. January, I will practice typing every day to bring my typing speed up to the level that will get me a higher paying job (minimum wage sucks) . I’m not sure on the order of the rest, but learning to drive our standard vehicle is another month (+?), I like Yoga, so I think one month will be learning about the different types of Yoga, and practicing daily, maybe meditation… I like the IDEA of meditation, but have tried only a couple of times ( after seeing EAT, PRAY, LOVE, I realize PRACTICE is what makes it possible!), learning everything about Microsoft office programs such as Excel, Outlook, Word, Access, Powerpoint.. will also potentially get me a better paying job! The more I think about what I DON’T know much about, the more I think this will be a lifetime “Resolution”, but will start with 2011. This has the possibility of being a challenging year, so starting with a Resort and Spa weekend sounds like a great beginning! (And on minimum wage, winning it is my only chance… ) I am new to BC, so this will also allow me to see a new place in my New Home Province! I love it here, and my future is looking brighter: one month at a time!

  29. Joanne Tse

I have been to Harrison Hot Springs every year for the past 4 years. It is absolutely beautiful and every time I leave I feel refreshed and relaxed. I would love to win this as I have only been there in the summer and never experienced the hot springs in the winter. My new years resolution is to spend more time with family and friends, since I have now graduated from university. I am also aiming at shopping less and being more frugal with my money.

  30. Min Schwartz

In the coming year, I want to find a job with balanced working hours so I can still get to spend time with my twin boys.

  31. Diana Campbell

My resolution this year is to complete my application for permanent resident status and join my wife in Canada. After 5 years of splitting our time between Vancouver and Birch Bay WA, we got married in July in White Rock and are ready to make our home in Vancouver. Love wins over all…

  32. Kathy

This year, I managed to quit smoking and to exercise regularly. For next year, I hope to be able to get a more fulfilling job and to be satisfied with my career. I also want to continue my volunteeir work with the DTES residents.

  33. Jenna

  40. Mandy

I actually don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions, because I think we should feel empowered to make a resolution ANY day. That said, today and going forward I resolve to not worry about how messy the house is, how high the laundry pile is or the many groceries that need to be bought. I resolve to stop, relax and spend more time with my hubby, amidst the chaos of our wonderful life as parents to a one year old. After all it was he who I fell in love with in the first place!

  41. Alicia O.

My New Years Resolution is to have a more positive year. 2010 was the hardest year of my life with my dog dying, my grandma having a heart attack and my Mum and I losing our jobs on the same day. 74. kevin k

    1. To study Chinese with my 1 yr old daughter, who’s mother is Taiwanese. The grandma (ama) is already teaching Iris, so I’ll need to catch up and be diligent. Being bi-lingual is GOOD, but also, I don’t want her talking back to me without even knowing it! I already have the computer program, and a wife/tutor. About 1-2 hrs a day, 5 days a week should do it.

    2. Build up to doing 100 push-ups, non-stop by April. Among other fitness challenge milestones.

    3. Go on a safari to find and capture/save exotic animals, like koalas, polar bears, kangaroos, and/or giraffes from dangers such as our dog, or the washer machine! (yes this will include the daughter, her stuffed animals, and playing ‘hind-and-seek’ in our home. Point being: continue to come up with ways to play/learn with her)

    4. Build a garden to eat from.

  75. Allie C

An A-list actress said, “If you don’t take some risks, in the end, your life will be pretty meaningless”…or something along this line.

Take less work home with me, go traveling more, enjoy new experiences and life in general more. Help someone in a way that can impact a life which in turn can change mine. In general be happy.

  82. karen

My New Years resolution is to be able to find a balance between everything: family, friends, school, work, and time alone. I hope to be able to spend as much time as possible with my friends and family but yet also be able to keep up in school, while juggling work. I feel like I’m always short on time, so if I’m able to learn how to better manage my time, I’d be able to use it more efficiently. Besides finding a balance, another resolution that I have is to live a healthy lifestyle. Because of the colder weathers, I haven’t been jogging around the neighbourhood recently. I will attempt to exercise at a fitness centre twice a week to become active once again.

  83. New Years Photography resolution: capture beautiful moments, locations, people 365 days of the year, starting with Harrison hot springs :)

  84. Francesca

Resolutions are usually about ourselves; how we need to loose weight (which I do), spend less (again which I do), exercise more (which I do), etc. I’ve made them in the past and they soon go by the wayside. This year I would like to spend time getting to know more about the important people in my life (family, friends, coworkers) and find out how I can help them make their resolutions come to realization. By doing so, I know that I will have touched the lives of others.

  85. Katie

I want to explore my creative side more this year, (and try and eat more fruit & veg).

  86. My resolutions for this New Year is decide my future,The question is: Stay in Vancouver and follow a career here and left everything in my country for a while, like family..boyfriend…or back to Brazil and start everything again…studies..work…

  87. Brydon Green

I never make New Years resolutions. Never. But I have already started one, and as selfish as this may sound, it is for me.

After a year of going through a marital separation, I realized my main focus was soley on my kids. I just wanted them to be happy, eat well, do their homework and help them with this if they needed it, and were well adjusted with our new, though meager, life. After all this, me & any of my needs were last on the list. We’ve weathered the storm of a year, and I realized if I don’t focus at least a little bit more each day on me, I will not be able to give my kids any of me. So, my New Years resolution started yesterday with my first trip to the gym and a yoga class. I’m watching what I eat, and have connected recently with all my friends that have been there for me and my kids. I hope in the new year I will continue my resolve to be the kind of person my kids can look to & look up to. A getaway such as this is something I would never do for myself.

  88. Elly

I resolve to learn how to walk in heels.

  93. Kitt

Start my pad Thai sauce business. It’s time!

  94. Stephanie

I am new in Vancouver, I just moved here from Ireland and I am here for for a full year so my new years resolution is to experience all that the city of Vancouver has to offer and see as much of British Columbia as possible and most importantly I want to photograph it all so I can share this adventure with my family and friends at home. I have already experienced so much but I have so much left to see. I want to make my year in Vancouver special and memorable. I want to see new parts of the city every week, I still haven’t been to Stanley Park, and I have never skied or snowboarded in my life so a trip to the slopes is also necessary. Who knows maybe if I document my adventure to a high standard I could contribute to this blog. I love your city.

  95. Katherine

My New Years resolution is to not spend so much time on the internet :S

I’m serious, this is going to be a hard one. I need to get outside more … at least I don’t have a TV so it’s not one thing to another :)

  103. Andra

2010 was a year I won’t forget. I participated at the 2010 Winter Olympics, and broke my leg during my event. I haven’t gotten back to my sport since the accident which left me with a metal plate and 6 screws in my knee, not to mention, slightly traumatized. My new years resolution is to get back to my sport and hopefully start competing again in the upcoming season, as well as become involved as a motivational speaker to young athletes.

  104. Erin

  109. Rita

My New Year Resolution is to live life like it may be my last.

To appreciate all my friends and to remember it is the things we do together with others that we remember at the end of the day.

… so kick up your heels or sit down for a brew with someone you care about

    Peace and Happiness to Everyone.

  110. Roanne

    Talk more and text less!

  111. janet

My New Year Resolution —i want to really balance my work and time with my hubby…i want to do more with him. life is not just about work…….
and i know i can do it. because i love him.

  112. Christine

To exercise more and eat healthier :)

  113. Amanda

My new years resolution is to send real mail. Like, with postage stamps and envelopes where a real human being takes it, sorts it, and delivers it. I am so tired of going to the mailbox and only pulling out bills and flyers. I want to go back to the days where opening a mailbox is a happy event, and if that starts with me sending something out – be it birthday cards, or just notes of encouragement – then so be it.

  114. Aaron

Make a two goals at the start of each month, and write the down. January: 1. cook for a big meal for my family once a week 2. Run twice a week

  115. tina

my new years resolution is to get rid of the excess junk in my attic, and being more active by excercising more

  116. Dianna

My resolution is to “earn” my next tattoo. By quitting smoking and walking my dog every day after work starting in January. (tattoo by March) I also intend on putting 2010 behind me and starting fresh knowing that the not so great things of 2010 have helped make me who I am, and using the information and experiences from the last year I can have a better more fulfilling year in 2011 with my kids, my family and my friends.

  117. Carrie geng

My new year’s resolution is to become a vegan. That’s all.

  118. CC

My NY resolution is to take the time to really see, take the time to really listen, and take the time to appreciate moments. And I’m going to TRY do this if I’m sitting in traffic, on a plane overseas or wiping the water off after being sprayed by a high end sports car. Life is precious. Life is short. Time goes too quickly. This will help with my number one NY goal: to continue caring about the world and the politics that shapes it. I think the world would be alot better if all of our NY eve resolutions were more about “what can I do for others”. Imagine the energy that would be harnessed if all of Canada stood up for injustice, stood up for the disempowered and cared more about lending a sweater as opposed to wanting to buy the latest trend at Holt Renfrew.

  119. Crystal

My resolution is to completely restart my life this year! make it the way that i want it to be.
I broke up with my boyfriend of 10 years recently, switched half my friends, moved my home, and moved my job and that is just the beginning. I am turning everything around and loving it. clean slate!

  120. Wai Ling HO

Been there and done that…the best resolutin for me and my love ones as well is to have a balance diet. That means it is not about loosing weight and set a target, it is to eat healthy. It is all about the yin and yang balance. What goes up must comes up! If we were healthy, we have the power to do whatever we want!! And I don’t think it is that hard to do because we are what we eat! Cheers!

  121. Danielle

My New Year’s resolution is to dance more, laugh more, and reduce my use of electricity in 2011.

  122. Maryann

I lived in Harrison Hot Springs when my children were young. Now that I am growing old and recovering from a serious health event, my New Year resolution (and every year resolution) is to take seriously good care of myself. This includes yoga, meditation, dance and wholesome food. Staying healthy will allow me to visit my children and my first grandchild in Vancouver more often, to enjoy and give to my family of myself and my love in the best possible way.

  123. Francis

  125. Paul

My new year’s resolution is to spend less time on the internet and more time self-pampering :)

  126. kw

I’m going to create a online survey to circulate amongst friends asking them:

    - what they’d like to learn over the next year (I’d like to learn about Canada’s drug laws and how to tell better stories, for examples)
    - what they’d like to do over the next year (ex. make kimchi, go skating, learn how to knit and make soap, etc.)

Then I’m going to figure out how to share the information around to see if anyone has any mutual interests. I figure this may be a small way to create a bit of a smaller community in the city and by writing down resolutions/sharing them, we may all be more accountable. And what fun to learn that my friend X also wants to learn how to make kimchi! :)

i resolve to learn hebrew, to adorn the marble heads of statues with knitted hats, to learn to love in a singular way, to be a more graceful drunk, to finish the grand squizzard, to read don quixote, to make my own sauerkraut, to become a handy mechanic, to realign myself with The Good, and to eat more beets.

  128. Alakitten

I must admit I am not extremely knowledgable in the many religions of the world. In 2011, I want to learn!!

  129. Kelsey

My resolution is to not let the opinion of others dictate my life choices and actions. This year I want to do what makes me happy and not constantly compromise myself to make everyone else around me happy. I’m going to start by getting that tattoo everyone told me not to, and saying no to late hours at the office.

  130. To continue to share my love for Vancouver by writing here and in my blogs about things to see and experience in this region.

To treasure simple daily experiences and be thankful for my health to allow me to …even bike, walk, be mobile, to see, to hear, to even type on the computer and to be mentally alert to write and share in a mindful manner for you all.

  139. My resolution is to complete my part of the immigration application so my wife and I can finally live together here in Vancouver. Yes, yes, we know – Diane and Diana is a little too too cute. But hey, we are in our sixties and finally found someone we want to celebrate another year with. Celebrating at Harrison Hotsprings would put more spring our steps!

  140. Shanga Norris

My resolution is to begin my bucket list. I just turned 41 in November, and hope to enjoy Vancouver for the first time in my life. My husband and I are celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary with a road trip from California to Vancouver. So to bring in the New Year in the beautiful city would be a dream come true!

  141. New Year’s Resolution is to learn to love and live life to the fullest. Not worry about the little things so much.

  142. I want to breathe again,
Learn to face the joy and pain,

Discover how to laugh a little,
Cry a little, and live a little more.

I want to take it day by day,
Forget about the woes of yesterday.

Maybe with a bit of luck,
2011 might just work my way.

  143. Christy Johnson

I would like to make more time to exercise and become physically fit for myself and my family

  145. Sue Bentley

my New Year’s resolution is to downsize and simplify my life by getting rid of “stuff” … also, I want to spend more time at the Harrison Hot Springs Resort & Spa :)

  146. A Yuen

My New Years resolution is to Eat, Love and Enjoy. Spent time with family and friends.

  147. My resolution is to build my business and take it to the next level, to spend more time playing with my daughter rather than just talking about playing with her and to get my health in order.

  148. md

My New Years resolution is to not spend so much time on the computer.

  149. Tony

I am going to take my girlfriend to every diner in the lower mainland so we can find the best milkshake out there. Oh and we want to lose ten pounds. :)

  150. Sioned

My New Years resolution is to stop judging others so much!!

  151. Shawna

My New Year’s Resolution is to have even more fun this year than I did the year before! Eat more chocolate and go for more runs!

  152. Tracey

My New Year’s Resolution is to go back to school. I started a career in the health care field then my daughter was diagnosed with diabetes. This of course changed life and I placed all my attention on my children. I love my daughter and it has been a couple years of challenges with the struggle of being a teenager, diabetes and peer pressure. I am looking forward to getting back to school and helping others struggling with this disease. All entries seem great. Good luck everyone

  153. My New Year’s Resolution is to spend more time with my family and loved ones, and to spend less time on my Blackberry. To not neglect my offline relationships, to value the time I spend with my loved ones to the fullest, and to continue developing meaningful relationships with the awesome people that I surround myself with on a daily basis.

  154. Sam

I’ve learned the hard way that boring New Year’s resolutions don’t work, so last year I ditched the “save money” and “go to the gym more” resolutions and decided to go to 12 concerts, one for every month of the year.

It was the first time I actually saw a resolution come to fruition, and I had a blast doing it! Jay-Z, Lady Gaga, Daniel Wesley, Beyonce… what’s not to love?!

This year I made the resolution to travel more. India, Egypt, Greece and more. Success again!

So keeping in line with my fun equals success theory, 2011′s resolution is to learn to ride a motorcycle. Vroom vroom!

  155. Michael

My New Year’s resolution is to travel the world more. I fly all over the US, but I haven’t seen the world. I want to touch two continents this next year, somehow.

  156. My New Year’s resolution is to work towards living a pain-free 2011. The latter half of 2010 was full of pain for me-chronic inflammation and pain conditions concentrated in my back and neck-and it destroyed my life. That will never happen again and that is my new year’s resolution:
To continue taking all of my supplements (there are a lot!), following my anti-inflammatory diet, continue and expand my strengthening routines, continue practicing Yin yoga, continue trusting my chiropractor and massage therapist, deepen my mental strength, and treat my body well like it deserves.
My New Year’s resolution is to: heal thyself.

  157. Tanis

I want to learn to worry less. To break out of ‘my’ head full of problems and dramas, and connect more with the phenomenal world of possibilities and projects that are crying out to be born. To be freer of heart and mind to embrace opportunities, and to notice when they are present. I want to engender the courage to walk a new road with my husband, who has just been laid off for the second time this year … I want to be stronger.

  158. Grey

Resolution ’11 is to have a body like Kim Kardashian and reduce my looks by ten years, By going to the Harrison Hot Springs frequently!!

  159. Tamara

I’m going to practice reminding myself every day that while I work hard to be good to everyone in my life, my Kindergarteners, family and friends……I also need to add “me” to the list. I need to be good to myself and make myself a priority just as I place others at the top of my list.

  160. Sherrbear79

Resolution: To create and stick to a budget.

  161. Tava

I resolve to digitally kill all of my previous internet selves.

Old hotmail addresses that I’m beholden to checking every 30 days for fear of losing the content that I no longer need or no longer get any real mail from, yahoo email accounts from the rocketmail buyout that forward into my “real” email account bringing forth spam at recipe worthy levels. Amazon & Chapters recommendations based on 2x 20+ out of print book orders for family members that get me trashy romance and extreme science fiction suggestions. Bookmarks that scare me away from using my bookmarks folder because of the amount of computers they’ve been consolidated from. No more external hard drives, data back ups and poorly named files & tags to sort through. Come January 2nd it’s gone — and so is are the friendster & myspace & other social networking sites pre the ones people still use accounts that I haven’t checked in so long that I don’t even remember if I actually know who the birthday reminders that come in my email are for. And I vow to clean my RSS feeds list once every 2 weeks and sign up for no more than 2 new internet based new “oh my life needs this” sites and no more than 4 new phone apps a month.

  162. Laurie

where can we see the winner?

  163. adriana

My new years resolution is to make 2012 a positive year..- getting rid of all the negative around me- Dont let negativity get the best of you..and surround yourself with only positive and it will happen!
