Filming in Vancouver: To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before 2, Get Shorty, and Upload

Lana Condor stars in To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before 2.

This week’s comings and goings from Vancouver’s screen scene may set hearts aflutter as romance is a recurring theme.

A Netflix teen romance movie calls it a wrap while a new tech-driven romance TV series also finishes up this week.

Diverging from matters of the heart, a crime comedy-drama TV series that has relocated from the U.S. to here gets underway on its third season.

So if all of this tugs on your heartstrings, here’s a look at what’s happening in Hollywood North at the moment.

Get Shorty

Starting today (May 6), Get Shorty gets into production on seven episodes for Season 3 and will run until July 31.

Based upon the premise of the 1990 novel of the same name by Elmore Leonard, this series premiered in August 2017. (A 1995 film with the same title starred John Travolta, Gene Hackman, Rene Russo, and Danny DeVito.)

Season 1 shot in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Los Angeles, while Season 2 production took place solely in L.A. For Season 3, the series will be shooting here in Vancouver, with additional filming in L.A.

Get Shorty

This series follows an enforcer (Chris O’Dowd) for a Nevada crime boss who aspires to leave his criminal lifestyle and become a movie producer by laundering money through a Hollywood film. However, instead of leaving his world of crime behind, he unintentionally brings it with him to Los Angeles.

Lidia Porto

The cast includes Ray Romano, Sean Bridgers, Carolyn Dodd, Lidia Porto, Megan Stevenson, Lucy Walters, Goya Robles, and Sarah Stiles.

The wait for episodes of the third season isn’t long now as it’s expected to hit the airwaves in August.

Lana Condor

Shifting from crime to romance, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before 2, which began production on March 27, will finish up shooting on Wednesday (May 8).

Based on Jenny Han’s 2015 novel P.S. I Still Love You, this sequel will follow the developments in the first film in which her little sister sent all the secret love letters of Lara Jean, played by Lana Condor (Deadly Class), to all the boys she had crushes on.

Noah Centineo

According to reports, pretty much all the main characters from the first instalment are back for the second round.

The cast includes Noah Centineo, Janel Parrish, Anna Cathcart, Trezzo Mahoro, Emilija Baranac, John Corbett, and Madeleine Arthur.

New characters will be played by Jordan Fisher, Ross Butler, Holland Taylor, and Sarayu Blue.

On another note, there’s a third book—Always and Forever, Lara Jean. So does that mean there’s a third movie to come somewhere down the line?

Well, one can only hope. Before that, we’ll have to keep our eyes peeled for the release date of this second movie.

Robbie Amell

Later on this week, a romance series of a different kind also calls it a wrap.

The sci-fi romantic satire Upload will complete shooting 10 episodes for Season 1 on Friday (May 10), having started back on March 5.

Set in the year 2033 in which people near death can be uploaded into a virtual reality of their choice, Robbie Amell (The Flash) stars as an L.A. partyboy who dies when his self-driving car crashes.

Andy Allo

After his girlfriend uploads him into a luxurious virtual-reality world, he meets a customer service rep (Andy Allo) who, despite her spirited and rebellious persona, secrets pines for romance as she struggles to survive life in New York City.

The cast also includes Chris Williams, Christine Ko, Zainab Johnson, Andy Thompson, Elizabeth Bowen, Yvetta Fisher, and Hilary Jardine.

A release date for this Amazon Video series hasn’t been announced yet so stay tuned.

And while we wait for news on all those details, that’s all for this week but until we meet again, have fun Vancouver-spotting on a screen near you.
