Filming in Vancouver: Nancy Drew, Charmed, Are You Afraid of the Dark?

An air of intrigue and creepiness runs through this week’s roundup of what’s happening in the local screen scene.

A famous female detective is back on the case in the latest version of this series.

Then, three sisters are back in action with their spellcasting prowess on display once again for a second season.

And meanwhile, a Canadian scary story series has completed filming its scary scenarios and will be getting ready to scare you on a screen near you.

If you’re brave enough, here’s a look at what’s filming in Vancouver this week.

Kennedy McMann

A classic teen detective series gets new life in a television adaptation by the CW.

Nancy Drew begins Season 1 today (July 22) and will keep going until December 9.

Kennedy McMann plays an 18-year-old Nancy Drew, who has just graduated from high school and is preparing to leave her seemingly haunted hometown of Horseshoe Harbor for college. But she soon finds herself caught up investigating a ghostly murder mystery when one of the town’s most prominent residents is found dead.

Scott Wolf

Although Freddie Prinze Jr. (Scooby Doo) was cast as the father in the pilot (which shot here from March 25 to April 9 and was originally entitled The Haunting of Nancy Drew), he has since been replaced by Scott Wolf (Party of Five).

Leah Lewis

The cast includes Tunji Kasim, Alex Saxon, Leah Lewis, Maddison Jaizani, and Riley Smith.

Meanwhile, another supernatural series is getting back on set for another round of magical intrigue.

Charmed

The fantasy drama TV series Charmed sets off upon making Season 2, starting on Wednesday (July 24) and continuing all the way until April 16, 2020.

Three sisters Macy, Mel, and Maggie (played by Madeleine Mantock, Melonie Diaz, and Sarah Jeffery) discover that they are a powerful trio of good witches known as the Charmed Ones.

They develop their abilities and arise to face off against powerful dark forces in Hilltowne, Michigan.

It’s a reboot of the series that ran from 1998 to 2006.

The cast includes Ser’Darius Blain, Ellen Tamaki, Nick Hargrove. and Rupert Evans.

Just in time for All Hallow’s Eve, the new season is slated to premiere on October 11.

Miya Cech

Speaking of all things spooky, the scarefest TV series Are You Afraid of the Dark? shot three episodes for its miniseries revival from June 10 to July 19.

The Canadian horror-fantasy anthology series originally ran from 1990 to 1996 and then again from 1999 to 2000.

Lyliana Wray

The cast, who play the new members of the Midnight Society who gather around a campfire in the woods to tell scary stories, includes Sam Ashe Arnold, Miya Cech, Tamara Smart, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Lyliana Wray.

The group gathers to tell creepy stories about the Carnival of Doom, only to find the tales become real-life events.

Rafael Casal (Blindspotting) will portray The Carnival of Doom’s ringmaster, Mr. Tophat.

The release date hasn’t been announced yet so stay tuned, thrillseekers.
