Odysseo – ‘the best show ever’ comes to Vancouver

Horse-lovers and big-top spectacle fans will want to gallop to Vancouver for the upcoming run of Odysseo by Cavalia.

Billed by its producers as “the best show ever,” Odysseo by Cavalia is returning to the city after a North American tour. The new run comes three years after the Cavalia last touched down in Vancouver.

The B.C. appearance begins a multi-city Canadian tour to coincide with the country’s 150th anniversary celebrations. According to a recent press release, Cavalia – which premiered in Montreal in 2011 – is “the largest Canadian wholly owned cultural enterprise.”

A $30m spectacle, Odysseo features live music, acrobats, aerialists, riders, and horses – lots and lots of horses (65, to be precise). Breathtaking vistas are created onstage through high-definition images of landscapes projected onto a state-of-the-art panoramic screen. Elaborate sets, like a three-story hill, and props, including a life-size merry-go-round that descends onto the stage, help create one-of-a-kind set-pieces. But all play second fiddle to the magnificence of the real stars of the show – the horses.

Odysseo opens Jan 31 and runs until Feb. 19, 2017, at the White Big Top at Olympic Village (it’s not there now, but will be soon!). For tickets visit cavalia.net or call 1-866-999-8111. Up to a 15 per cent discount will be applied for online and phone transactions on select ticket categories for purchases made through Dec. 31.
