There’s something so magical about walking through a forest lit up with thousands of twinkling lights. Grouse Mountain lets you experience magic in the trees in their enchanting Light Walk set up for your next perfect Instagram opportunity.

Open daily at dusk, the Light Walk is a free mountain-top activity that is a great excuse to get a bit more fresh air and exercise at night. You can walk through the fir and spruce around Blue Grouse Lake where light installations shine brightly through the dark night.

The Grouse Mountain Light Walk is illuminated every night at dusk (it’s definitely not the same during the day!) and is open until 10pm. Starting from the skating pond, you can walk through the trees and around the lake to best experience the light installations.

Make sure that you pack a camera, because the Grouse Mountain Light Walk makes for some amazing pictures! Also, be prepared for chilly weather and walking on snow. It’s a good idea to avoid high heels or open-toed shoes.

Grouse Mountain also recommends to wear snowshoes or snow cleats (YakTrax or Microspikes are great options, which can be purchased at most outdoor stores). You can rent snowshoes from the Outpost Rental Shop for $20. However, the Light Walk is fairly well packed down, so unless you are planning on doing extensive snowshoeing, your regular shoes should work – just be prepared for slippery conditions!

There is a nice little warming hut in the middle of the Light Walk that is a great place to grab a hot cup of cocoa, tea, cider, or coffee. It’s typically less crowded than the main lodge, so it can be a good hideaway during those busy weekend evenings.
