Filming in Vancouver: Anna Kendrick, Allison Williams, Rachel Bilson, and more

Anna Kendrick sparkles as the daughter of Santa Claus in the Disney feature film Noelle.

Just as the holiday season ended and screen productions got back to set, a Christmas-themed feature film is finally wrapping itself up with a bow.

But something wicked this way comes: a creepy thriller about musical prodigies is headed into town, along with a new comedic cop series gearing up to shoot its first season.

Let’s take a look at what’s going on in Vancouver’s screen scene.

Anna Kendrick

The Disney feature Noelle (which also went by the names Untitled Santa Claus Project and Nicole) started on shooting in Vancouver and Whistler on October 23 and will call it a wrap on Thursday (January 18).

Anna Kendrick stars as the daughter of a retired Santa Claus who is forced to take over the reins of Christmas gift-delivering responsibilities when her brother (Bill Hader, Saturday Night Live) flakes out at the last minute.

On social media, Kendrick gave audiences a first look at her character’s outfit that may give you some ideas about what to wear for your next office Christmas party:

The cast also includes Billy Eichner (Parks and Recreation), as well as some names that fans might recognize from 1980s and ’90s shows: Julie Hagerty (Airplane!), Shirley MacLaine (Steel Magnolias), and Michael Gross (Family Ties).

But there’ll be quite the lengthy anticipatory period before audiences can unwrap the final product. The movie won’t be released for this year’s holiday season but will be released on November 8, 2019.

Allison Williams

While we wait for that one to be released, there’ll be plenty of other productions coming into town to take note of.

One such example is the horror-thriller The Perfection, which will shoot in Shanghai and Vancouver.

The production reunites Allison Williams (Get Out) with writer-director Richard Shepard—both worked together on HBO’s Girls.

Logan Browning

Logan Browning (Dear White People) also starsin this dark tale of cello prodigies whose pursuit of improvement and mastery turns into a sinister obsession.

The Vancouver leg of the production is slated to run from February 14 (Valentine’s Day, no less) to March 16.

Rachel Bilson

Another production coming into town is a new upbeat procedural TV series will shoot its first season from February 26 to July 23

Take Two will bring Rachel Bilson (Hart of Dixie) and Eddie Cibrian (CSI: Miami) to town.

Bilson stars as Ella, the former star of a hit police series who just emerged from a stint in rehab and hopes to get her career back on track. As part of research for a new role, she convinces a reluctant L.A. private investigator, Eddie (Cibrian), to allow her to shadow him.

Yet when Ella proves herself to be an invaluable asset to Eddie in solving cases, as she draws upon her acting abilities and storyline experiences, the pair find themselves becoming an in-demand duo.

Eddie Cibrian

If this premise sounds somewhat similar to Castle—in which a mystery writer (Nathan Fillion) shadowed an NYPD detective (Stana Katic)—but with the gender roles reversed, that’s because Castle creators Terri Edda Miller and Andrew W. Marlow are the co-creators and executive producers for this new show.

However, Miller and Marlow assure audiences that Take Two will diverge from Castle, such as expanding beyond homicide cases and exploring fresh points of view with new characters.

Supergirl

Also in the meantime, the wait is finally over for the midseason premieres of all the TV series that you’ve been reading all about here.

Today (January 15) Season 3 of Supergirl is back on screens, followed by Season 4 of The Flash (January 16).

Arrow

Season 2 of Riverdale gets going again on Wednesday (January 17) while Thursday (January 18) sees both Arrow (Season 6) and Supernatural (Season 13) underway.

Well, that should certainly keep viewers busy this week with plenty to take in until we’re back with more of what’s shooting on the streets of Hollywood North.
