Filming in Vancouver: The Predator’s back, Sacred Lies starts, TV pilots abound

A big baddie is back in town—for additional shooting for The Predator.

It’s TV pilot season, with a whole batch being shot in Vancouver this month. If all goes well and they’re greenlit, it could mean a whole bunch of new TV series will be shot in the city in the near future.

There’s also a creepy alien movie back in town, a creepy classical-music thriller calling it a wrap, and a creepy TV series about a girl without hands shooting its first season.

Hopefully all this creepiness is intriguing because here’s this week’s rundown of what’s going on in Vancouver’s screen scene.

The Predator

First up, The Predator is back in town for some reshoots, which start today (March 12) and continue until March 29.

The cast includes Boyd Holbrook, Olivia Munn, Trevante Rhodes, Keegan-Michael Key, Yvonne Strahovski, Alfie Allen, Thomas Jane, Sterling K. Brown, Edward James Olmos, and Vancouver’s Jacob Tremblay.

Trevante Rhodes

The sci-fi flick is the fourth instalment in the Predator movie series. After experiencing a number of delays, it wrapped up its initial shoot in June last year.

Originally, the movie was slated to be released on February 9, but then it was rescheduled to August 3. And now that date has been shifted to September 14. Let’s hope that’s the last of the changes to the release date.

Allison Williams

Another sinister movie in town, The Perfection, wraps up its shoot on Friday (March 16), after it began on February 14.

Directed by Richard Shepard (Girls), the horror-thriller follows two cello prodigies whose desire for excellence is driven by an ominous obsession.

Logan Browning

Heading up the cast are Allison Williams (Get Out) and Logan Browning (Dear White People), who are joined by Steven Weber, Alaina Huffman, Winnie Hung, Graeme Duffy, and more.

James Roday

Meanwhile, production on several TV pilots get underway this week.

ABC’s A Million Little Things starts today (March 12) and continues until March 29. The ensemble drama follows a circle of friends who are stuck in their lives but receive a wakeup call when one of their group suddenly dies.

The cast will include James Roday, Romany Malco, David Giuntoli, Allison Miller, Christina Ochoa, Anne Son, Christina Moses, and Stephanie Szostak.

Christina Ochoa

The Mission (also known as Safe Harbor) starts in on Tuesday (March 13) and keeps going until April 2.

Directed by Michael Offer (Longmire), this ABC drama follows the lives of L.A. police on and off the job, as they find themselves in situations that range from the distressing to the humorous.

Lynn Collins

The cast includes Lynn Collins, Wood Harris, Aasif Mandvi, Kris Lofton, Josh Randall, Vannessa Vasquez, and Alexander Karim.

Harriet Dyer

In Between Lives begins filming on Wednesday (March 14) and runs until March 29.

This NBC supernatural cop drama focuses on a woman, played by Australian actor Harriet Dyer (Killing Ground), who uses her psychic abilities to an LAPD detective and a former FBI agent, played by Yusuf Gatewood (The Originals), to solve cases that seem impossible to crack.

The cast also includes Cindy Luna and Sean Bolger.

Elena Kampouris

Facebook Watch drama series Sacred Lies starts shooting 10 episodes of its first season on Thursday (March 15) and continues until May 25.

The series is based on the Grimm Brothers tale The Handless Maiden and Stephanie Oakes’ novel The Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly. When a teen, played by Elena Kampouris (Before I Fall) without hands escapes from a cult, she is placed in juvenile detention for a brutal beating of a young man, but she’s also suspected of knowing who killed her cult leader.

The cast includes Kevin Carroll, Kiana Madeira, and Vancouver’s Ryan Robbins.
