Filming in Vancouver: Arrow, Supergirl, and Fast Layne wrap but The Order gets underway

Supergirl, starring Melissa Benoist, is one of the TV series wrapping up this week. But it’s not the last we’ll see of the superhero.

Last week, The Flash finished up production, and this week, two more Arrowverse also are also winding up work on their latest seasons.

Joining them is a new TV series that’s completing its life in the fast lane.

But never fear, for a new supernatural drama has hit town and is shooting its inaugural season.

Here’s a look at what’s coming and going from Vancouver’s screen scene this week.

Jake Manley

As we previously mentioned, The Order started shooting its first season on April 18 and will continue until July 20.

Details about the show weren’t previously available but have since been revealed.

This Netflix supernatural drama, directed by David Von Ancken, revolves around a college student named Jack Morton, played by Jake Manley (Heroes: Reborn).

When Jack joins the titular secret society, he enters into a world in which a war is being waged between werewolves and dark magic.

B.C. actor Sarah Grey (DC’s Legends of Tomorrow) plays an overachieving political science major who is attracted to Jack.

The cast also includes Matt Frewer, Sam Trammell, and Max Martini.

Ten episodes are slated to be shot for Season 1. but a release date hasn’t been announced yet so we’ll have to wait to find out when we can see the final product.

Meanwhile, two Arrowverse TV series finish up production on their latest seasons this week.

Supergirl calls it a wrap on Season 3 on Saturday (April 28), having started back on July 6, 2017.

Melissa Benoist heads up a cast that includes Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh, Jeremy Jordan, David Harewood, Katie McGrath, and more.

The show went on hiatus in February to make room for the debut of a new superhero series, Black Lightning (which isn’t shot in Vancouver but in Altanta, Georgia), as the CW is limiting itself to airing only four superhero series at a time.

Supergirl returned to air this month and has been renewed for a fourth season so we’ll be seeing more of this superpowered series in the near future.

But before then, the Season 3 finale will air on June 18.

Stephen Amell

Meanwhile, Arrow, starring Stephen Amell, wraps up production on Season 6 on Thursday (April 26), having started back on July 7 last year.

The cast includes David Ramsey, Paul Blackthorne, Emily Bett Rickards, Katie Cassidy, and more.

The season finale is not far away as it’s scheduled for May 17. But that’s not the end of the story because, true as an arrow, the series has been greenlit for another season.

Interestingly enough, Amell has been reported as stating that there’s a high probability that Arrow will crossover at some point with the aforementioned Black Lightning. (The latter show isn’t a part of the Arrowverse although it is part of DC Comics.)

In addition, Colton Haynes, who guest starred as Roy Harper in Season 6, has been promoted to series regular for Season 7.

Fast Layne, which started shooting Season 1 on February 19, also finishes up this week, ending on Friday (April 27).

It was initially described as a new version of the classic Herbie the Love Bug, which was about a sentient Volkswagen Beetle.

This Disney Channel version is limited series starring Sophie Pollono (The Young and the Restless) as a 12-year-old overachiever who stumbles upon a talking, self-driving car named V.I.N. with which she sets off upon adventures filled with action, comedy, and intrigue.

The cast also includes Sofia Rosinsky, Brandon Rossel, and Winslow Fegley.

Well, that pretty much sums it for this week’s round but, as always, stay tuned for future developments in what’s going on in the ever-changing world of Hollywood North.
