Filming in Vancouver: A rebooted Twilight Zone, The InBetween, Loudermilk, and more

Although it’s still summer (technically speaking, despite the current weather), Vancouver’s screen scene has turned towards the spookier elements of autumn, with a supernatural tone running through this week’s roundup that continues on from previous weeks.

This week, two news TV series that are deal with limbo realms will be coming to town to shoot their first seasons.

Meanwhile, a cranky comedy wraps up—and there’s brief news about a new series that centres around everyone’s favourite subject: puppies!

If you’re curious, then read on.

But be warned: You are about to enter a new dimension.

The Twilight Zone

Yes, dear reader, you have just crossed over into a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind. And one that is about to be rebooted.

The iconic TV sci-fi series The Twilight Zone is being relaunched and the new version will shoot its freaky first season from October 1 to March 20, 2019.

The Twilight Zone (second series)

The original anthology series about alternate realities and what-ifs, which was created by Rod Serling, incorporated elements of science fiction, fantasy, suspense, and psychological thriller, and ran from 1959 to 1964.

The franchise has since included a feature film version and several revival series, including a short-lived TV series that was filmed in Vancouver but unfortunately only lasted one season from 2002 to 2003.

Filmmaker Jordan Peele

But there’s good news: it looks like this latest incarnation will be in capable hands.

It’s being executive produced by none other than filmmaker Jordan Peele, who received critical acclaim for and box-office success with his 2017 horror film Get Out.

The cast and further details haven’t been announced yet so this is one to stay tuned for.

Harriet Dyer

Shortly thereafter a new supernatural crime TV series is scheduled to shoot in Vancouver from October 15 to February 20, 2019.

Like the Twilight Zone, it, too, deals with the space in between realms.

In The InBetween (previously called In Between Lives), Australian actress Harriet Dyer (Love Child) stars as a mysterious woman named Cassie Bishop who has clairvoyant abilities that allow her to see and speak with the dead. She uses these special powers to help an LAPD detective and a former FBI agent solve challenging cases.

The cast also includes Anne-Marie Johnson, Cindy Luna, Chad James Buchanan, and Paul Blackthorne.

However, to avoid confusion, it should be noted that there are two other screen productions with similar names (not filmed here) that this TV series is unrelated to.

This TV series is different from the forthcoming supernatural romance feature film The In Between, about a teenager who tries to reconnect with her boyfriend who died in a car accident.

It’s also different from the Australian TV series Mr. Inbetween. Seems like it’s quite the popular and trendy title at the moment.

Loudermilk

Meanwhile, the comedy TV series Loudermilk wraps up production on Season 2 on Thursday (August 30). It started filming back on July 5 and was created and is executive producer by Peter Farrelly (There’s Something About Mary) and Bobby Mort (The Colbert Report).

The series follows the misadventures of recovering alcoholic and substance abuse counsellor Sam Loudermilk (Ron Livingston), who has one bad attitude.

In this new season, after he experienced a relapse in New Orleans and fell out with his best friend and sponsor (Will Sasso), Loudermilk is back in Seattle where he’s forced to rethink over his life (which he hates doing).

The cast also includes Anja Savcic and Laura Mennell.

The second season of the series is slated to premiere on October 16.

Over in Victoria on Vancouver Island, Puppy Prep Academy will start shooting Season 1 on September 10 and continue until December 21.

Details aren’t available for this new TV series but who needs a human cast when you have a school full of puppies? Sure sounds like fun.

On that note, that’s it for this week. But we’ll be back again for more on what’s happening here on the streets of Hollywood North.
