A hit at home in Canada, Scout & The Gumboot Kids is also picking up accolades from all over the world. The Vancouver-created kids’ TV series has been recognized by the prestigious Le Prix Jeunesse International in Munich and The Japan Prize.

One of the ingredients of the show’s success is the music of Jessie Farrell. A Canadian country music artist, Farrell has lately been turning her attention to kids music inspired by her two children. She has released three albums of family-friendly music, and her songs are featured on Scout & The Gumboot Kids. She also stars in her own spinoff series, Jessie & The Gumboot Kids, on CBC Kids.

Later this month, Farrell will be part of The Gumboot Kids Live Show in Vancouver. Along with characters from CBC Kids TV shows, she’ll perform at Highlands Elementary School (3150 Colwood Drive) in North Vancouver on Oct. 27 and West Pt. Grey Community Hall (4595 West 8th Ave.) in Vancouver on Oct. 28. Read more below.

The concerts feature Farrell performing songs from The Gumboot Kids. Characters from CBC Kids including Daniel Tiger and True from True and the Rainbow Kingdom, will mix and mingle with the pre-school crowd, and their parents.

Scout & The Gumboot Kids (along with spinoff shows Daisy & The Gumboot Kids and Jessie & The Gumboot Kids) uses lovable characters, a gentle tone and emphasis on nature play and mindfulness to connect with the pre-school set. Both the David Suzuki Foundation and the UCLA Global Media Centre for Social Impact endorse the show.

The songs from The Gumboot Kids soundtrack are written, co-produced and performed by North Saanich-based artist Farrell.

Scout & The Gumboot Kids has been recognized as a finalist at the two most prestigious international awards for children’s television in 2018 including the top awards Le Prix Jeunesse International and The Japan Prize. At the Prix Jeunesse International, Scout & The Gumboot Kids was the only program selected as a finalist from North America (preschool, non-fiction category). An international jury judges the programs. The Prix Jeunesse Festival happens bi-annually in Munich, Germany. The festival’s goal is to discover the world’s premier programming for children.

Scout & The Gumboot Kids is the only preschool program selected from North America for the other top international prize: The Japan Prize (November 2018). This prestigious international competition established by the NHK (Japan broadcaster) in 1965 is considered one of the top International Children’s television prizes in the world.

Tickets for The Gumboot Kids Live Show are $20 for adults, $15 for kids, and free for children under three. Discounted family packs and group rates are also available. Tickets are available at gumbootkids.com.
