Filming in Vancouver: Charmed, The Murders, and Surveillance all call it a wrap

The TV series Charmed wraps up production on its first season this week.

’Tis the week before Christmas and all through the city, amid all the flurry of Christmas wrapping, TV and film productions shooting in Vancouver are also calling it a wrap.

This week, two TV series and a pilot, including a police procedural and a fantasy-drama about a trio of witches, finish up production on their latest seasons.

Here’s a quick look at which shows are winding down in Vancouver’s screen scene this week.

Sophia Bush

First up, shooting for the CBS TV pilot for Surveillance just finished on December 14, after starting on November 27.

This spy thriller drama stars Sophia Bush (Chicago P.D.) as Maddy, the head of communications for the National Security Agency (NSA), who is put to the test when she faces a predicament: should she protect the government’s secrets—or her own?

Catalina Sandino Moreno

Catalina Sandino Moreno (The Affair) also stars as Maddy’s longtime friend who oversees all NSA operations while Dennis Haysbert (24) portrays the NSA’s deputy director.

The cast also includes Allen Leech (Bohemian Rhapsody) as a former CIA operative who is Maddy’s husband, Matthew Modine (Stranger Things) as a mysterious government operative, and Raphael Acloque (24: Legacy) as a journalist for an alternative news website.

In the meantime, it looks like Bush has been enjoying the views that Vancouver and B.C. have to offer, including visits to Victoria and Vancouver Island.

As so far only the pilot has been shot, we’ll have to wait to hear if it gets the go-ahead to shoot Season 1.

Jessica Lucas in Gotham

Meanwhile, a gritty Canadian police procedural crime drama calls it a wrap on eight one-hour episodes for Season 1 on Thursday (December 20).

Citytv’s The Murders, which began filming back on October 9, is an episodic case of the week TV series.

Jessica Lucas (Gotham) stars as rookie homicide detective Kate Jameson who seeks to redeem herself after her negligence results in the death of a fellow officer.

Lochlyn Munro

In the pilot episode, when Jameson is teamed up with detective Mike Huntley (Lochlyn Munro), they begin to investigate the mysterious case of a serial killer who employs music in his deadly pursuits.

Terry Chen

The cast includes Dylan Bruce (Orphan Black), Terry Chen (Jessica Jones), Luvia Petersen (Ghost Wars), and Venus Terzo (Arrow).

The series will premiere in 2019, though a specific date hasn’t been announced yet.

Melonie Diaz and Sarah Jeffrey star in Charmed

The day after that one finishes, Charmed completes production for 22 episodes for Season 1 on Friday (December 21).

The series began shooting back on August 13.

As a reboot of the original series that aired from 1998 to 2006, this version also follows three sisters in the fictional college town of Hilltowne, Michigan.

Madeleine Mantock and Ser’Darius Blain

Each sister has magical abilities that they use to protect people from demons and supernatural foes: Macy (Madeleine Mantock), who has telekinesis abilities; Mel (Melonie Diaz), who has powers over time; and Maggie (Sarah Jeffery), who is capable of telepathy.

The cast also includes Ser’Darius Blain, Rupert Evans, Ellen Tamaki, and Nick Hargrove.

The series premiered on October 14. When the series returns after the holiday season, Jaime Camil (Jane the Virgin) will appear as a special guest star in the role of a music director of an a cappella group.

And on that magical note, that’s all for this week’s roundup.

With the holiday season upon us, a lot of TV series will be going on hiatus. We’ll have more details in the weeks to come, along with any new productions coming to town in the new year.

In the meantime, keep your eyes peeled as you rush around preparing for the holidays because in Hollywood North, it’s not just Santa who comes to town….
