Filming in Vancouver: Riverdale, Lost in Space, Supernatural, and more

After a holiday hiatus, Riverdale gets back to filming its third season today.

Last week, we kicked off 2019 with a look at several TV series returning to production in Vancouver after a seasonal break.

This week, we take a look at the remaining bunch getting back on set. And it’s quite the extensive list.

So grab a bucket of popcorn or leftover Christmas munchables and get ready to chow down on this lengthy rundown of what’s filming in Vancouver.

Harriet Dyer

A number of eager-beaver TV shows were getting back to work on Sunday (January 6), including Snowpiercer, The Flash, and The Man in the High Castle.

One more to add to that batch is The InBetween, which first launched into production on Season 1 on October 15.

After the holiday season, this crime-drama series, starring Harriet Dyer as a woman who uses her special abilities to communicate with the dead to help detectives solve mysterious cases, got back on set on January 6 and will continue shooting Season 1 until February 20.

Riverdale

Everyone’s favourite dark and edgy take on the classic Archie comicbook series, Riverdale, is back from its seasonal break today (January 7).

Production on Season 3, again starring KJ Apa as lead character Archie, started back on July 9 and runs until April 4.

Eline Powell in Siren

Also back to work today is Siren, which is in the midst of shooting Season 2.

The mermaid drama-fantasy series, starring Eline Powell as a mysterious woman whose appearance in a small fishing town turns the lives of locals upside down, will continue production, which began on July 26, until March 15.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow

While Arrow and The Flash returned to work last week, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is getting back into the saddle today (January 7).

The series, which began work on Season 4 on July 5, is going to be calling it wrap pretty soon though—it finishes up on January 24.

Melissa Benoist

A fellow Arrowverse TV series is also zooming back into action today.

Superhero series Supergirl, starring Melissa Benoist as the power-packed lead, began shooting Season 4 on July 11 and will keep zooming along until April 15.

Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles in Supernatural

Also back from its wintry hiatus today is the current longest running TV series in production in Vancouver: Supernatural, starring Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki

Believe it or not, it’s now on its 14th supernatural season, which began shooting on July 10 and will call it a wrap on March 26.

The Twilight Zone

The updated version of The Twilight Zone is also back today, which began production on Season 1 on October 1.

This third revival—yes, third!—of the classic alternate-reality series, which incorporates elements of sci-fi, fantasy, and horror in episodes that explore “what if?”, will keep going until March 20.

Molly Parker in Lost in Space

Production on Season 2 of Lost in Space takes off again today, but will be calling it a wrap soon—the reboot of the 1960s sci-fi series, starring Vancouver’s Molly Parker and Toby Stephens, will shoot until the end of the month.

Lost in Space

Yet another new TV series back today is Magic Hour, which began filming Season 1 on November 12.

This mystery-drama series is based upon a true story, which follows a young girl who uses her wits to find clues to solve a cold case, and continues production until April 15.

Virgin River novel series

Based on the romance novel series of the same name, Virgin River was one of the few TV series to begin shooting in Vancouver in December. It began on December 3 and went on hiatus on December 21.

But it’ll continue work on its inaugural season until March 26.

Melonie Diaz in Charmed

Witchy reboot Charmed initially appeared on production lists as calling it a wrap on Season 1 in December.

However, like A Million Little Things, it turns out that it was only breaking for the holiday season.

The fantasy-drama series, which got rolling on August 13 with lead cast members Melonie Diaz, Madeleine Mantock, and Sarah Jeffery in the roles of three sisters who discover they have powerful magical abilities, gets back into casting its spell over audiences today (January 7) and will continue until April 26.

Disney Channel’s Gabby Duran and the Unsittables, which started shooting Season 1 on October 22 and stars Kylie Cantrall as a fearless babysitter in charge of looking after alien offspring, is back to work on Tuesday (January 8) and will keep going until April 2.

Kylie Cantrall

Like the previously mentioned Legends of Tomorrow, iZombie only makes a brief reappearance by resuming production on January 10.

However, it is set to wrap shooting Season 5 on January 21.

And as this is going to be the show’s final season, we’ll going to be saying farewell to this series. (Sob!)

iZombie

And that’s it for this week. That was quite a list to get through so if you’re still with us, thank you!

While those are shows that have already been filming in the city, it’ll be interesting to see what new TV series and feature films make their way to Hollywood North as a shooting location this year.

Until then, stay tuned, true believers…
