Experience Ocean Wise Romance at the Vancouver Aquarium

The Vancouver Aquarium’s After Hours events are a fabulous way to enjoy its many galleries in a much more intimate, kid-free way.

If you’re still in the midst of Valentine’s Day planning and want something that goes beyond the usual candlelit dinner, the Aquarium has a love themed event that may be the perfect romantic outing.

On February 14, 2019, from 6pm to 11pm, the Vancouver Aquarium is bringing back their popular Valentine’s Day Affair. These After Hours events only take place a few times a year, making them special occasions for taking in the wonders at the Aquarium.

Grab a drink (cocktails, beer, and wine will be available for purchase) and get set for a night of ocean-inspired sex and romance. The event gives you post-closing access to all the Aquarium’s galleries, the Wet Lab, the 4D theatre, as well as Vortex where Douglas Coupland’s provocative art installation centred on ocean waste is located.

A range of racy programming awaits you. The educational highlight will be a talk by Dr. Megan Strobel, the Aquarium’s veterinary fellow. She’ll be offering a sex talk (make sure to take notes!) on ocean creatures, including facts like courting rituals, a species that mates for 14 hours continuously, and penis to body size ratios for aquatic animals.

Also not-to-be-missed are the adult puppet show and the always “awwww” inducing feeding of the sea otters. You’ll learn more about sea otters and their feeding habits during this session.

If you’ve ever pondered the mating rituals of sharks, the Shark Reproduction Show will answer your burning questions. Apparently, there are 4 different ways that sharks reproduce (oviparous, viviparous, ovoviparous, and intrauterine cannibalism). It boggles the mind! Human sex seems positively banal in comparison.

And throughout the night, stay tuned for the Penguin Walk when everyone’s favourite tuxedo-garbed guests of honour make their appearance.

Tickets are an affordable $27 for members and $35 for non-members. Further info and tickets are available on-line.
