Crush Your 2019 Fitness Goals at these Vancouver Races

Is your 2019 fitness goal to push your limits to run a marathon? Or maybe cycle up a mountain, or compete in an Ironman event? Race season is coming up and you’re in luck because Vancouver’s mild climate paves the way for the city to host internationally attended running, cycling, and triathlon events. Which means that you could plan a holiday around your race goal – it’s a win-win situation.

Run

Vancouver Sun Run (April 14) The Vancouver Sun Run is Canada’s largest 10K road race. Run through a beautiful scenic course that highlights Vancouver’s downtown core at Burrard Street and Georgia Street, the world famous Stanley Park, and Cambie Street Bridge for the final stretch across the bridge to the finish line. And be sure to celebrate your achievement a the wrap party held at BC Place!

BMO Vancouver Marathon (May 5) Continuously ranked one of the top destination marathons in the world, the BMO Vancouver Marathon is a scenic Boston Qualifier. Runners will experience their 42.2km (26.2 miles) adventure next to beaches, through natural parks, and along Vancouver’s Seawall – the world’s longest uninterrupted waterfront path.

Scotiabank Half Marathon & 5K (June 23) The Scotiabank Half Marathon consistently hosts over 5,000 runners, making it one of the largest half marathons in the area. Race down (yes, down!) a scenic point-to-point course from UBC to Stanley Park. With a net drop of almost 300ft and a consistently competitive elite field, this event has produced the fastest half-marathon times ever run in BC.

SeaWheeze half marathon (August 17) Yoga, run, party! You and 10,000 go-getters will run one of the most beautiful and fun half-marathons around. Hosted by of local athleisure-wear legend Lululemon, this is a weekend of running, partying to live music in Stanley Park, and sunset yoga to stretch out your legs and decompress – because this is Vancouver, and that’s how we roll.

Cycle

Gastown Grand Prix (July 10) Part of BC Superweek, the Gastown Grand Prix is a cycling race held in historic Gastown that attracts professional riders from across North America alongside crowds of spectators. Riders love navigating the tight corners and cobbled streets.

RBC GranFondo (September 7) Bike the 122 km from Vancouver to Whistler on the Sea-to-Sky Highway, considered one of the most beautiful roads in the world, in the biggest GranFondo on the American continent.

Ironman

Subaru IRONMAN Canada (July 28) With Whistler just a couple hours’ drive away from the city, what better way to end your triathlon journey than in Vancouver? The Subaru IRONMAN Canada builds on the tradition of the namesake race that has been part of the IRONMAN circuit for over 30 years. Since moving to Whistler in 2013 it has wowed athletes and their supporters year after year. The race runs through the traditional territory of the Squamish & Lil’wat Nations and the scenery will inspire you to keep going!
