There’s no other way of saying it, the Richmond Night Market is epic.

First founded in 2000 by entrepreneur Raymond Cheung, the Richmond Night Market has grown from modest beginnings since its first location at the Continental Centre on Cambie Road.

Now, the Richmond Night Market is the largest Night Market in North America and has become an international attraction, attracting over 1 million visitors each year.

The opening date of this hotly anticipated annual event is fast approaching and we can’t help but get excited for an upcoming summer of food, shopping, and entertainment! In anticipation of the event, let’s take a look at some of the top 5 things to discover once the Richmond Night Market opens for the 2019 season!

When: Friday – Sunday from 7 pm to midnight, May 10 – Oct 14, 2019
Where: 8351 River Road (one block away from Bridgeport Station Canada Line)

1. The food

The Richmond Night Market boasts over 500 International food items, so you’ll never be trying the same thing twice. It is strongly advised to visit the Richmond Night Market on an empty stomach because you’re going to want to eat!

From bubble tea to deep-fried octopus balls (takoyaki) and from tornado potatoes to meat skewers, there really is something for everyone.

2. Easy access from transit

Located near to Bridgeport Station on the Canada Line, the Richmond Night Market is incredibly easy to get to by transit. There is free parking located at the site (8351 River Road), but it gets pretty busy very quickly. It’s always easier to ride the Canada Line and walk over to the market from the station. Or, try biking! Richmond happens to be very nice and flat (compared to the rest of Vancouver).

3. The extensive selection of socks

If you’re in need of some stylish socks, the Richmond Night Market certainly has a huge selection of everything you could ever dream of in sock form. Don’t expect any boring ol’ black or white socks. These socks are full of cute designs, cartoon characters, and funny faces.

If you’re on the hunt for a cheap and cheerful cellphone case, this is also a great place to buy some amazing options that would be hard to find anywhere else.

4. The entertainment

The lineup of entertainment and performers isn’t released for 2019 just yet, but you can always bet that there will be something interesting happening on the stage of the Richmond Night Market.

5. The culinary adventures

Okay, food was already listed, but it warranted another mention because 90% of the fun of visiting the Richmond Night Market is trying something new and exciting.

Last year featured some amazing (and Instagram-famous) foods such as giant seafood crackers, churros in ice cream served in a unicorn floaty, waffle towers, donut sandwiches, and a whole lot more. Only time will tell what’s the Instagram darling of the night market this year
