Where to Celebrate Mom Over Brunch in Vancouver

Mothers deserve endless thanks for all the hard work and sacrifice that they devote to their families. A brunch in one of the city’s finest restaurants can be a lovely way to celebrate Mom and to spend some quality time together over good food.

There are a host of options this year for fêting your mother over eggs, pancakes, and plenty of other culinary delectables. Here are five that are worth considering:

Showcase Restaurant & Bar

Showcase Restaurant & Bar (1120 Hastings St) has an unforgettable brunch buffet menu lined up for this Mother’s Day (available 9:30am to 2pm). Expect tons of breakfast classics (e.g. sausage, bacon), as well as a prime rib carvery, salads, roasted salmon, and a benny station. Seafood will also be in abundance, like crab claws, poached shrimp, and a live sushi station. Save room for desserts like profiteroles or liquid nitrogen ice cream. Adults are $70 per person, with children 5-10 years old $35. The early bird seating from 9:30am-11:00am is $55 per adult and $25 for kids.

Cardero’s Restaurant

Avocado smash

One of Coal Harbour’s favourites Cardero’s Restaurant (1583 Coal Harbour Quay) will be ushering in their inaugural brunch service. The new menu (available from 11:30am to 2pm) features the following inventively delicious items: Mediterranean eggs with warm pita, housemade hummus, avocado, tomatoes, and goat cheese; an avocado smash on grilled Italian cheese bread with a poached egg, cherry tomatoes, goat’s cheese, and arugula; and a smoked steelhead latke with arugula, roasted roma tomatoes, and hollandaise. Cheers Mom with a mimosa or an aperol spritz.

Ancora Waterfront Dining & Patio

With a sublime waterfront view, brunch on Mother’s Day in Peruvian-Japanese style at Ancora (2-1600 Howe St). Highlights from the à la carte include a soft shell crab taco with mango salsa, harissa emulsion, seaweed, and ikura; forbidden rice paella with black cod croquettes, rocoto aioli, and a fried egg; and a grilled zucchini salad with a soft boiled egg, queso fresco, and huancaina sauce. Caviar service is also available, as is the decadent Ancora glacier that comes with oysters, a ceviche/tartare tasting, crab causa, Salt Spring island mussels, Peruvian escabeche, poached prawns, and a selection of sashimi.

Pourhouse

Pourhouse (162 Water St) is also introducing a new brunch menu during the Mother’s Day weekend (10:30am to 2:30pm). Even better, enjoy live music on Sunday from noon to 2pm. Dishes available include French toast with rum and pineapple upside down sauce and Chantilly cream; a mushroom frittata with eggplant caponata, parmesan, and arugula salad; and a 6 oz flat iron or 16 oz bison ribeye steak and eggs with potatoes, two eggs, chimichurri, and sourdough (bring your appetite for this one). Of course, Pourhouse will be offering delicious cocktails, such as the Rosa Fizz with Cocchi Rosa vermouth, grapefruit cordial, and seltzer.

Notch8

At Notch8 (900 West Georgia St), from 11:30am to 2:30pm, there’ll be a sumptuous brunch that features slow roasted prime rib, roasted leg of lamb, roast turkey, a seafood bar (e.g. smoked salmon, poached prawns), and tons of elevated breakfast favourites, like Dungeness crab eggs benedicts. Tons of pastries and desserts will also be available. Look forward to a harpist for musical accompaniment as well as take home chocolates for every mother. Adults are $79 per person, and children under 12 are $39.50.

As Mother’s Day brunch gets very busy, make sure to make a reservation at one of these restaurants as soon as possible.
