Sword-fighting, burlesque and local celebs in Game of Thrones Live

Going through Games of Thrones withdrawal? Disappointed over the last season, but still hankering for some dragon-y Westeros action?

On June 14 and 15, the Rio Theatre (1660 E. Broadway) brings back Oakland, California’s variety vaudeville troupe Tourettes Without Regrets with a revamped version of its notorious and popular Game of Thrones burlesque. Game of Thrones Live: Fire & Ice, Ice Baby! features dozens of characters played by underground vaudeville and burlesque performers from the award-winning Tourettes Without Regrets as well as local Vancouver stars. According to Rio Theatre owner Corinne Lea, “This year is going to be off the hook!” A huge Night King battle, choreographed by a pro film fight choreographer, is planned, she says. “Plus Burns the Dragon has gone all out and created an incredible costume! This show is really a labour of love for the entire cast so they are going all out for the grand finale!”

In Tourettes’ Game of Thrones burlesque, performers take the characters from the HBO series one step further with an irreverent mix of burlesque, fire-breathing, live action sword fights, dark comedy, and circus acts, along with audience contests. The show is described as “an interactive war with one side of the audience versus the other, where the winners change the end of the show and kill off major characters along the way.”

The show regularly sells out its annual shows in Oakland, California, and Vancouver. Tourettes describes it as “a nerd explosion with pairings we wish we could have seen in the real thing, and legendary scenes brought to life all with the goal of bringing fan-boy and fan-girl fantasies alive in one bloody mix of carnage and carnality.”

Tourettes Without Regrets’ Game of Thrones burlesque comes to the Rio Theatre June 14 & 15.

Jamie DeWolf (spoken-word artist, National Poetry Slam champion and descendent of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard) directs and hosts performers from the award-winning Tourettes Without Regrets crew in collaboration with local celebs.
