The 11th annual Lumière Festival, Vancouver’s interactive celebration of light, art, and community, returns this fall from November 7 to 10 at public venues throughout Downtown Vancouver.

The popular festival promises another year of immersive experiences, from various small and large-scale illuminated artwork installations to dazzling light-based projections accompanied by live dynamic performances, to liven up its weekend.

The festival will open with a spectacular event on Thursday, Nov. 7, at Vancouver Art Gallery North Plaza (šxwƛ̓ ənəq Xwtl’e7énḵ Square), featuring dynamic performances by Ember Arts, Elektric Collective, and other talented performers.

This year’s edition of the Lumière is exclusively curated by Ana Valine, a local award-winning filmmaker. Festival highlights include a vibrant mix of European, American, and Canadian artists.

“Lumière aims to transform the city’s urban landscape into a radiant canvas of light, redefining November as the start of the winter season with inspiration and connection,” says Valine.

New locations include Coal Harbour featuring the “Borealis” art installation, an immersive light and sound art piece by Swiss artist Dan Acher, and “Translucens,” a holographic projection on a curtain of water with an accompanying soundtrack by Finnish designer Niko Tiainen.

Lumière is a great opportunity for both locals and tourists to seek out stunning must-see waterfront locations like English Bay and the aforementioned Coal Harbour.
