Davie Village is one of Vancouver’s most festive neighbourhoods with flags and sunburst banners adorning lampposts, rainbow décor adding pops of colour, and patios packed with revelers on sunny days. Situated in the West End and known for its thriving community of gay and lesbian residents, Davie Village imbues a chill vibe for meandering the streets by day, and thumping clubs and pubs that come alive at night.

Little Sister’s Book & Art Emporium: A Queer Vancouver Literary Legend

When you walk down Davie St in the heart of Vancouver’s gay village and see the familiar hot pink electric sign for Little Sister’s Book & Art Emporium—often known just as Little Sister’s—you might not realize you’re passing a lot more than an LGBTQ+ book and sex toy store. While Little Sister’s is certainly a great place to find queer books (print and digital), sex toys, rainbow pride gear, trans supplies like binders, and more, it is also a powerful queer institution with a revolutionary history.

When Kendall Gender greets me at the towering glass doors of her Yaletown apartment she’s flanked by two members of her glamorous entourage, one of which is her drag sister and fellow Bratpack girl, Gia Metric. True to her brand, Kendall is both posh and humble in the company of her friends as we sit down in the apartment building common room to kiki about her recent win at Vancouver’s Next Drag Superstar 2017.

Vancouver’s Drag Superstars Compete for the 2017 Crown on Feb. 16

It’s coming down to the under-wire and kitty gurrrrrl, Vancouver’s Next Drag Superstar just stepped the competition up!  Everything started on January 19th and with the semi-finals this Thursday, February 9th we’re down to the final eight, henny on the way to the grand finale on Thursday February 16th.
